How we started

 

Mama Kim's is a family owned, and managed, authentic Korean and Japanese restuarant located at 349 King Street in downtown Charleston, South Carolina. Mama Kim's specializes in authentic Korean and Japanese cuisine; however, the menu does offer top grade sushi as well. 

 

Mama Kim's was founded in 2004 by Kim Brown, also known as "Mama Kim", and her son James Brown. The restuarant was first located on Calhoun Street, east of King Street. After many years of success, Mama relocated her restaurant to King Street in 2012 for the purpose of a better location.  By offering only the highest quality of products, including: Niskiki rice, AAA grade sushi, and prime beef, Mama Kim's quality reflects her care for the well-being of her customers. 

 

Mama Kim's is a business, but this is not why she has worked in the restaurant industry for over 27 years. Her passion for the restuarant begins with her love for her family and customers, who quickly develop into long term friends. Mama Kim calls her restuarant home because you can find her there everyday of week with her grandchildren, who help manage the restaurant, while visiting with customers from across the globe. Making every moment memorable, you will find all of her customers on a bullitin board on the wall!
